Gaibandha is in Northern of Bangladesh. Gaibandha district was established in 1984. It is a part of the Rangpur Division and located on the bank of Brahmaputra River. The ancient name of the area was Bhabanigonj. The district consists of 7 Ppazilas, 3 Municipalities, 82 Union Parishads, and 1249 villages. The Upazilas are Fulchhari, Gaibandha Sadar, Gobindaganj, Palashbari, Sadullapur, Sughatta and Sundarganj; the municipalities are Gaibandha Sadar, Gobindaganj and Sundarganj.

Gaibandha district information

There are many educational institutions in this district like government colleges, non-government colleges, government high schools, non-government high schools, junior high schools, madrasas, government primary schools, non-government primary schools, kindergartens, satellite schools, community schools and primary teacher’s training institute and so on. For these institutions, different poor children are getting light of education. As a result, literacy rate is increasing day by day and every person is awarding in different fact.

Gaibandha Govt College goes digital

Gaibandha Government College (GGC), the biggest academic institution in the district, has introduced digital system to collect all sorts of fees from the students, reports BSS.
Official sources said the objective of introduction of digital system is to help the government build digital Bangladesh and materialise "vision 2021" declared by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sure Cash has cooperated with the college authority to implement the system for the college students in December at the directive of the Ministry of Education, sources said.
In this system, the students of the college would be able to pay their fees online and get SMS from the concerned persons instantly, said vice principal Mizanur Rahman. Princi-pal of the college prof. M Zahe-dul Haque said the hassle and bother of the students in case of submitting admission, tuition and form fill-up fees in the bank had been removed for introducing the digital system.

Over 100 land in Gaibandha Sadar Hospital in 12 hrs

Over a hundred patients got admitted to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital with serious diarrhoeal problem in 12 hours as the disease saw a sudden outbreak in Gaibandha town and adjoining areas early yesterday.

The disease first appeared at two students' boarding houses at Thanapara and Khanka Sharif in the municipality, forcing the patients to go to the hospital, said locals.

Afterwards, patients from Paschimpara, College Road, Palashpara, Masterpara and Banierjan rushed to hospital with the same problem.

Many patients had to stay in the corridor and veranda as the accommodation capacity of the hospital is too small.

Several patients complained that there was no physician in the emergency ward for the treatment of patients.

Meanwhile stock of cholera saline in the hospital finished and the patients' relatives had to buy it from local market that too fell short of the essential medicine, said relatives of patients.

"To meet the crisis, we have asked medicine traders in Rangpur to urgently supply 300 packets of cholera saline. We also started announcement through loudspeakers, asking people not to drink water without purifying," said Shamsul Alam, mayor of Gaibandha municipality.

"The epidemic might be due to contaminated drinking water. However, proper test will be needed to ascertain the reason," said Dr Azad Mandol, in-charge resident medical officer of Gaibandha Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, over 30 patients have already been released from the hospital and the situation is now under control, he said.
